Dokk1 is its own thing: A building that brings together public institutions such as the library and citizen services with DR Sporten, Vejret and more, and serves as a cultural centre and gathering place for all of Aarhus. Dokk1 provides space for communities, immersion, learning, play and movement.

Dokk1 was built in 2015 as a central part of the transformation of the inner harbour in Aarhus, where it went from industrial port to urban space. The new urban space, but also the harbour to the north, can today be seen from the outdoor deck around Dokk1.

On the deck you can also experience the playground The Globe, which surrounds Dokk1. The playground is aimed at the whole family, where children and adults can play together. In the design of the playground, emphasis has also been placed on giving children with special needs or disabilities the opportunity to join in the play.

The playground consists of play areas, each representing a continent in the form of: the bear, the sea eagle, the Chinese dragon, the ice flakes and the monkey.

Dokk1's indoor areas are spread over two floors. The many open areas provide a flexible setting where you can relax or take part in the building's many activities and events.

The two floors are connected by a large ramp that leads up to the area known as the view. Here you can get a great view of the harbour, Aarhus Ø and the waterfront.

The view is also where you'll find Kirstine Roepstorff's Gong, the world's largest tubular bell: 7.5 metres long and weighing three tonnes. When a baby is born at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby, parents can press a button at the hospital. The bell in Dokk1 will then sound a gong!
