Bunshin Robot Café – The Café of the Future with a Social Purpose
Stop by Bunshin Robot Café at 'Øens Madhus' in 'Generationernes Hus'. Here, you'll be served by robots remotely operated by individuals who, due to their life circumstances, have difficulty participating in the traditional job market. These employees face mental, physical, or social challenges that limit their ability to leave their homes.
Bunshin is the Japanese term for "splitting oneself" and being in several places at once. At Bunshin Robot Café in Øens Madhus, the employees get the opportunity to be present through the robots and become part of a work community—regardless of their challenges or level of functioning. The goal of the project is to test welfare technology in practice, with the aim of eventually making a difference in places like nursing homes or supported living facilities. The café is the first of its kind outside of Japan.
At Bunshin Robot Café in Øens Madhus, a remotely operated robot can take your order, serve your food, or simply keep you company. The café offers a unique dining experience that connects people across physical spaces, allowing us to share time together while experiencing how the welfare technology of the future can be applied in real life.
Bunshin Robot Café in Øens Madhus is an employment initiative running until the end of September 2025.
You're welcome to visit the café free of charge, but refreshments are available for purchase.
