Choir concert with Sedjanka
The Aarhus-based women's choir Sedjanka specialises in singing Bulgarian folk songs, which they interpret in modern, polyphonic arrangements. The choir consists of around 20 singers and has existed since 1994. Its artistic director is the renowned Bulgarian-born conductor Michael Deltchev.
Deltchev trained at conservatories in both Bulgaria and Scandinavia and also conducts the Bulgarian-singing women's choir Perunika in Stockholm.
The repertoire of Sedjanka is based on the living Bulgarian folk music tradition, which makes use of special scales and intonations. The choir sings in Bulgarian with the characteristic, powerful and sharp sound that characterises Bulgarian vocal music.
