GROWTH
Drop by 'The Five Sisters' at the harbour at nightfall and experience the iconic silo building light up in interaction with a living cornfield as a symbolic memory of more than 100 years of Aarhus history that will soon take new shape.
'GROWTH' is the title of a very special and sensuous audiovisual light installation created by artists Elisabeth Holager Lund (NO/DK) and Christoffer Møller (DK) for the Festival Week, which you can experience at "The Five Sisters" at Aarhus Harbour.
Because when darkness falls, the old harbour building lights up.
Here you will encounter a section of a cornfield interacting with changing lighting that shoots into the multi-faceted building, while a sound work gives voice to the building's interior.
An architectural memory of the city's development
A building that since 1927 has served as a feed mill, where grain and animal feed have been stored and distributed. From its location in the centre of urban Aarhus, the building has created a relationship with the surrounding Jutlandic agriculture - but that bond will soon end. The building and the area will face a new and as yet unknown future.
'VÆKST' was created specifically for this pivotal moment in the building's history. It is not only a tribute to a historic building in Aarhus, but also a reminder of the major urban development that has taken place around the building and the harbour area over the past 100 years.
Aarhus Festival would like to invite you to stop and reflect as you stand by 'GROWTH'. 'Mind the Gap'. Between city and agriculture. Between what was and what will be. Between an Aarhus of yesterday and an Aarhus of tomorrow.
On Sunday 7 September, we invite you to an open harvest event in the installation, where the work will be dismantled straw by straw by the city's citizens. Everyone can take some of the Øland wheat field home with them.
'GROWTH' will also be on display during the day, but the sound and light installation will only be active at nightfall.
Thank you to the Port of Aarhus for the use of the building and thank you to Aurion for contributing grain to the installation.
