Hele Aarhus Fejrer: Festival parade

Århus Friskole is holding a parade on Saturday 6 September to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the festival week. The parade starts at Sankt Knuds Torv, where it joins the "Tinman Garden" parade from VIA UC, which starts from Banegårdspladsen at 11am. The procession goes along Strøget and ends at Bispetorv at 12.15hr.

Aarhus Friskole has been organising parades since 1978. The first parade was together with Odin Teatret in 1978 down Strøget with a performance on Clemens Bro. Back then it was a colourful carnival-inspired parade with drums, trumpets, dancing, singing and children on stilts. From 1982, the parade was moved to go through the Botanical Gardens with a performance at Amfiscenen. This was done every year in the 80s and 90s in collaboration with the then Aarhus Kindergarten Seminary, which organised for 50 kindergartens to take part in the parade. When the seminary was closed down, the parade moved back to Strøget with performances at Univers, and at the same time we added juggling to the parade with unicycles, juggling, etc. In recent years, we have held parades in various locations, including in the Old Town in connection with the Aarhus Rocks exhibition, at the carnival in Gjellerup, Culture Night and during the festival week at events in Mølleparken or at the Music Centre/City Hall.
