Light Festival: Fluxit
Amidst the darkness of Mølleparken, the light work 'Fluxit' rises up like a glowing and sparkling bonfire and a luminous symbol of the transition from past to future.
Created by Dutch artist collective Vendel & de Wolf, 'Fluxit' consists of bamboo sticks wrapped in foil and orange LED tubes.
In daylight, the installation looks like "a messy pile of sticks", in the words of the artists. A chaos. But with the onset of darkness, the interplay of foil and LED tubes transforms the work into a hypnotic bonfire of dancing sparks and pulsating flames. A luminous fixpoint in the middle of the darkness of Mølleparken.
For over 30 years, the artist collective Vendel & de Wolf has worked with site-specific installations that combine technology, nature and light. Using simple materials, they create sensuous, poetic works that emphasise the hidden beauty of their surroundings. 'Fluxit' is no exception.
With 'Fluxit', Vendel & de Wolf want to thematise the ritual meaning of a bonfire in many cultures. Here, the bonfire is used as an omen of a new time and to chase away evil spirits. You leave the past behind and move forward. As a symbol of the transition from past to future - and a brilliant connection to the anniversary theme 'Aarhus Festival - no age'.
Fluxit has previously been shown in the Netherlands, South Africa and China - and is now "switched on" during the Festival.
