Light Festival: GENKLANG

'Aarhus Connections' is the title of Aarhus Festival's big anniversary concert. A title that refers to Aarhus Festival as a historical link and to the city's strong musical community. But it is also a reminder of the concert's location at Pier 3 and the site's history as a ferry terminal for Molsfærgen.

The abandoned harbour area's current limbo between past and possible future is illuminated by artist Elisabeth Holager Lund in two fascinating light works 'GENKALD' and 'GENKLANG', which can be experienced exclusively during this year's Festival Week.

'GENKLANG' illuminates the abandoned ramp that used to be an important and well-known connection between Jutland and Zealand in its function as a driving ramp for Molslinjen's car ferries. The light work drills its way through the ramp structure as if it were phantom pains from severed and amputated joints.

The lights chase an echo from another time. A bridge that never arrives. A faded memory that insists on living on. The lights sparkle restlessly and impatiently. The work glows for a connection to the past that is challenged - perhaps even broken - but whose resonance still hangs in the air.

Note: As Pier 3 will be used as a concert venue from 03 September, you will be able to see the work from Navitas.
