Light Festival: Klostertorv Boogie Woogie
In 2019, Lys på Aarhus started a collaboration with ARoS Art Museum to identify a number of artists who could contribute with a publicly accessible light artwork for Klostertorv, of high quality and intention.
The task was to find a work that could fulfil the task of speaking the language of Klostertorv and act as a luminous point in the everyday lives of citizens when crossing, waiting at or staying in the busy square. The work chosen was Ruth Campau's "Klostertorv Boogie Woogie".
The aim of the project was to explore the potential for increasing the safety and desire to use an urban space like Klostertorv by creating light art that can provide a presence and invite a quiet moment in an otherwise busy everyday life.
The sculptures filter the daylight around them, during the day and later in the evening, the light in the work will subduedly strengthen the play of colours in the glass, giving the sculpture a liveliness and presence in the evening hours.
