Light Festival: Light's Hesitation
Decoration for Aarhus Cathedral School 2010. The work is dedicated to Ole Rømer on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of his death.
Ole Rømer (25. September 1644 - 19 September 1710) was a Danish astronomer, engineer and chief of police. He was born in Aarhus and graduated from the Cathedral School. In 1675 Rømer was the first to demonstrate that light does not propagate instantaneously, as previously assumed, but at a finite speed.
This scientific statement has an involuntary poetic/philosophical dimension that inspired me to work with it artistically by creating the text in white neon.
This text is installed at the top right of the new building facing Mejlgade and lights up morning and evening.
An incredible statement that connects science and art, past and present, and due to its physical size - 27 x 175 cm - is an intimate and surprising work in this specific context: cathedral school - cathedral - women's museum.
