Light Festival: Magic Mushrooms
Magic Mushrooms by Elmgreen & Dragset (DK / NO)
The internationally recognised artist couple Elmgreen & Dragset have won the first, largest and most building-integrated of two tenders for the artistic decoration of Dokk1 with their project Magic Mushrooms.
Elmgreen & Dragset is based in Berlin and is known for works in London, Rotterdam and Madrid.
The work consists of a model of an imaginary, exotic city that is mounted upside down on the underside of the ramp.
The city is realistically reproduced at a scale of 1:100 with an area of approximately 11x25 metres and a height of up to 2.5 metres. The work also includes lighting of the city.
Elmgreen and Dragset say about their work:
"The dream of an imaginary world has existed at all times. Cities that cannot be reached in a physical sense, but can only be grasped through our imagination. Our proposal for Dokk1 shows an architecture within architecture - an imaginary city that challenges the visitor's perception and invites to be experienced from new angles depending on where you want to be in the building.
