Light Festival: The Garden in the Machine
During Aarhus Festival, Filmby Aarhus will open the doors to the giant digital artwork, 'The Garden in the Machine', which will adorn the facade of Filmby Aarhus. Danish video artist Jesper Just is behind the work, and with 'The Garden in the Machine' he wants to focus on the importance of plants and people's relationship with nature.
'The Garden in the Machine' is a digital installation consisting of sound and film. The work is controlled by a living pine tree on which six sensors are installed, each measuring different parameters of the tree's physiology; growth, photosynthesis, water uptake, etc. The recorded data from the tree unfolds as a film that plays on the façade of Filmbyen. The data is constantly changing and affects the visual expression of the film. In this way, the natural tree influences the digitised forest in the film.
