Nighthawks

Nighthawks is Denmark's new tribute band.

Under the motto "Tom Waits....for you", four experienced musicians have set out to honour and spread the songs of one of America's best and most recognised songwriters and artists.

Tom Waits is responsible for a huge catalogue of songs about quirky existences on the dark side of society - often very beautiful, but performed with a personal voice described by Rolling Stone as the sound of "a rusty ploughshare."

Bob Dylan himself has declared that Tom Waits is one of his secret heroes. But Tom Waits is for everyone, and the Nighthawks want to make their hero less secret.

"Many people know Tom Waits' fine and evocative songs, but often in versions with other artists, such as the Eagles, Rod Stewart, Diane Krall or Bruce Springsteen. Now we're putting our own spin on it, and we're sure we can get even more people to share our enthusiasm for this fine songwriting," says Morten Grønfeldt Hansen, singer, pianist and guitarist in the band.

Nighthawks - named after the live album "Nighthawks At The Diner" - consists of:

- Kim Eland, drums

- Niels Hasselstrøm, bass and vocals

- Erik Eisenberg, pedal steel, guitar, banjo and vocals

- Morten Grønfeldt Hansen, piano, guitar and vocals

In addition to Tom Waits' songs, Nighthawk's repertoire also includes selected songs by personal songwriters such as Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

"We're not a clear-cut cover band, we're happy to cover songs other than Tom Waits - as long as they have the same edge and quality," says Morten Grønfeldt Hansen.
