Slow-Power Vinyasa Yoga: Strength, flexibility and inner peace

Vinyasa yoga differs from traditional Hatha yoga by linking all exercises together through breath-initiated flows.

In slow-power Vinyasa, postures are held for longer, allowing us to anchor deeper into them and focus with concentrated, introspective attention. The slower pace requires more physical endurance than traditional Vinyasa and uses this physical challenge as an exercise in cultivating calm. By finding the eye of the hurricane, we learn to rest in challenges without becoming consumed by them. This approach helps to build mental and physical strength and flexibility, reduce stress and cultivate concentration.

In my classes, we explore the same series over a longer period of time, allowing you to build confidence in the series, immerse yourself in the poses and open up to more subtle experiences. Each session lasts an hour and 15 minutes and includes guided meditation (dhyana), breathing exercises (pranayama) and a series of postures (asanas).

"Yoga is more than the physical positions we hold. We use the postures to cultivate inner awareness, which we curiously direct towards the phenomena that arise in our minds along the way. This helps us understand the nature of our mind and act more consciously for the benefit of ourselves and others. As a yoga teacher, I see the challenges that come with teaching yoga as part of my spiritual practice (sadhana).
