Classical on grass - Mathias Kjøller & Bjarke Mogensen
Classical Sounds on the Grass – Calm, Presence and Music Under the Open Sky
Sunday mornings in Musikhusparken take on a new sound with Klassisk på græs (Classic on Grass) – a free concert series where the music is allowed to unfold at its own pace. Settle down on a blanket, lean back on the grass and let your gaze wander as the music fills the park.
There are no words from the stage – only notes floating freely between the treetops and the sky, inviting the audience to find calm, contemplation and a sense of presence in the heart of the city.
Clarinet and accordion make an unconventional duo, and hardly any music has been written specifically for the two instruments. Mathias Kjøller and Bjarke Mogensen have turned that premise on its head, choosing not to be constrained by a lack of repertoire, historical periods or traditions. Together, they present music by composers as diverse as Vivaldi, Rachmaninov and Schnittke, with the clarinet’s warm, gentle tone and the accordion’s melancholic sound inviting the audience to slow down and let their thoughts wander beneath the open summer sky.
Mathias Kjøller is Principal Clarinet of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and has built an extensive repertoire as both a soloist and chamber musician over the years. Bjarke Mogensen is one of Scandinavia’s most sought-after accordionists and has collaborated with many of today’s leading composers and ensembles. Both are known for their distinctive, expressive interpretations and have performed extensively in Denmark and abroad – and now they come together to explore a new and largely uncharted repertoire.
