Art

Home is where your heart

From August to September 2026, the exhibition will explore in various ways what ‘home’ can mean and become when examined through social, site-specific and participatory visual art formats. Each exhibition venue will contribute based on its own practice and profile, showcasing the breadth of Aarhus’ artist-led scene: from exhibitions and events to performances, workshops, talks, walks and communal gatherings across the city.

Over the weekend of 28–30 August, (almost) all venues will open their doors with events that can be experienced individually or as a unified journey through the city’s artist-run landscape. On Friday 28 August from 4 pm to 8 pm, Artist Run Aarhus invites you to ART WALK, which begins at rum46 and continues on to HUS8000, Kunstrum ÆSKEN and CANTINA, before the last stop which is HVERK. The evening will conclude there with a festive get-together from 8 pm to midnight. On Sunday 30 August, 1 pm–5.30 pm, the route will be repeated in a new version, where you can once again experience exhibitions, events and encounters across the city as we walk together. We’ll start at 1.00 pm at Aarhus Billedkunstruten, KH7 Artspace, Huggeormen, Cantina, HUS8000, ÆSKEN, rum46 and HVERK.

‘Home is where your heart is’ thus revolves both around the theme of home and the hearts that create visual art in Aarhus. At the same time, it marks the launch of Artist Run Aarhus as a shared platform for the city’s self-organised art communities. We invite you to explore the connections between these communities and discover the artistic practices that help shape the city’s cultural undercurrent.
