The Last Play
The Ukrainian charity organisation Malyn Volonter collected soft toys from bombed homes in Malyn, Morozivka, Mykolaiv and Borodyanka for this artwork. The photograph below was taken by volunteer Hanna Diadia.
‘The Last Play’ consists of 96 soft toys sewn together, representing the many childhoods that were abruptly cut short by the bombings. Children continue to live in the shadow of war. Every day, a child loses a loved one, a home or the right to safety and health.
Anni Laukka (1982) is a Finnish artist who works with sculpture, light and shadow. At first glance, her shadow works may appear to be one thing, whilst the light reveals an entirely different figure in the shadow. In this way, she explores the visible and the hidden – and weaves multiple narratives into a single work.
