Live Art for Children 2026: HEART ON THE SLEEVE
‘Hjertet på ærmet’ is a performance about the party as a place. About feeling every emotion and feeling nothing at all, whilst the bass thumps in your chest.
The performance is structured like a party that suddenly falls apart. The moment you end up sharing too much, you are struck by thoughts of your own mortality and the end of the world, or simply heartache. The project explores the ecstasy of the party, but also the discomfort and loneliness found within the party space.
‘Hjertet på ærmet’ is about the cool and the cringe-worthy, the awkward, the vulnerable and the intimate. Being alternately apathetic and over-engaged with the world and the people around you. Having a conversation that’s a bit too serious between two sips of a drink. Ending up crying on the dance floor. Being boring. Leaving the party. Wearing the wrong outfit. Accidentally waving to someone you didn’t actually know at all…
‘Hjertet på ærmet’ was first performed in 2023 at Kulturmødet Mors and developed in collaboration with students from Krabbesholm Højskole. The work is now being presented in a new version in collaboration with students from SGK at Teaterhuset Filuren in Aarhus, featuring a new soundtrack by Joakim Wei Bernild.
Filip Vest (he/them, b. 1995) explores themes such as identity, performativity and work through his performances, installations and films. Vest’s works negotiate the social scripts and structures we take for granted, in order to see whether there are other possible narratives and ways of being in the world.
‘Hjertet på ærmet’ is part of the Live Art for Children 2026 festival at DOKK1 during Aarhus Festuge. The festival explores the socio-political challenges facing Aarhus Municipality.
Supported by: Knud og Dagny Gad Andresens Fond, Statens Kunstfond, Nordjyllandsfonden, Demant Fonden, Svensk-Danska fonden, Festugen and DOKK1.
