Live music: Voices in Voks

Come and enjoy a captivating musical experience: ‘Stemmer i Voks’ at the Dome on Pier 2, FlokFolk featuring the musicians behind ‘Sorten Muld’

Original phonograph recordings of voices from the heath intertwine with Ulla Bendixen’s vocals. These captivating songs alternate with the story of folklorist Evald Tang Kristensen’s long walks across the heath, the tales of the poor, and the legends and songs they still lived by here on the cusp of the early 20th century.

Martin Døssing Ottosen and Ulla Bendixen are two dedicated musicians who share an inexhaustible love for and fascination with old folk songs and tales, destinies and tall tales.

In 1995, they formed the band Sorten Muld, which draws precisely on this cultural treasure trove of songs and adapts it to contemporary music and musical language. Sorten Muld was soon expanded to include the electro virtuoso Henrik Munch and a permanent live band.

In their latest project, “Stemmer i Voks”, they step into the old, long-forgotten boots of Evald Tang Kristensen, and let them guide us through history, from house to house across the Jutland heath, into the low-ceilinged living rooms where the singers and their voices suddenly stand vividly before us.
