Martin Zeppelin (1)
“The lyrical world Martin Zeppelin creates is in a league of its own. It’s moving, poetic and genuinely funny” – Gaffa
It’s rare to see artists like Martin Zeppelin emerge on the Danish music scene, so it’s no wonder he’s regarded as a true gem of the Danish-language music scene.
His latest album ‘Stjernesejler’ received 5 stars in Gaffa, and this album features the late Stig Møller in his final musical farewell, as guitarist and guest vocalist.
Shortly after its release, out of the blue, we were treated to a duet between Lars H.U.G. and Martin Zeppelin on the track ‘Smukke Dreng’, even though the rock icon had officially retired 10 years ago - The young poet is full of surprises.
It is a mature and romantic world of lyrics, with a spiritual richness reminiscent of C.V. Jørgensen and Peter Sommer, yet the energy of youth sparks in the music - When Martin Zeppelin plays live with his band, he really turns up the volume, playing loud and wild, whilst at the same time creating space for sincerity and quiet warmth.
His love for Danish song doesn’t come out of nowhere: Martin Zeppelin has passed through the eye of the needle on the songwriting course at the music conservatoire, where he had Peter Sommer as his mentor, who says:
“He had me at: ‘I just want to write about this stuff!’ Which was Martin Zeppelin’s main reason for writing songs, and, with them under his arm, applying to the songwriting course. He was already in my songwriter’s heart, and I got him into the course. And blimey, has he flourished in the shadows he’s found himself in. Now he’s stepping into the light, out into the world and, hopefully, into the consciousness of many more people. He really does write about that stuff!” - Peter Sommer
Since then, the music and songs have flourished – Martin has supported both Bisse and Folkeklubben, and has played at Smukfest, Spot Festival, Byhaven, Rust and, most recently, a sold-out release concert in his hometown of Aarhus with his band.
