Martin Zeppelin
"The lyrical universe that Martin Zeppelin creates is something else entirely. It's touching, poetic and really funny" - Gaffa
It's rare to see artists like Martin Zeppelin pop up in the Danish music landscape, so it's no wonder he's considered a true Danish-language luxury act.
His latest album 'Stjernesejler' received 5 stars in Gaffa, and on this album the late Stig Møller participates in his last musical farewell as guitarist and guest vocalist.
Shortly after the release, out of the blue, we got a duet between Lars H.U.G. and Martin Zeppelin on the song 'Beautiful Boy', even though the rock icon had officially ended his career 10 years ago - The young poet is full of surprises.
The lyrics are mature and romantic, with a spiritual richness in the vein of C.V Jørgensen and Peter Sommer, but the energy of youth sparks in the music - When Martin Zeppelin plays live with his band, they pour petrol on the fire, play loud and wild, while creating space for sincerity and quiet warmth.
The love for the Danish song doesn't come out of nowhere: Martin Zeppelin has been through the eye of the needle at the music conservatory's songwriting programme, where he had Peter Sommer as a mentor, who said:
"He had me at: I just want to write about shit! Which was Martin Zeppelin's main reason for writing songs, and with them under his arm, applying to the songwriting programme. He was already in my songwriting heart, and I got him into the programme. And boy, has he blossomed in the shadows he's been in. Now he's moving into the light, out into the world and hopefully into the consciousness of more people. He writes about shit!" - Peter Sommer
Since then, the music and songs have flourished - Martin has supported both Bisse and Folkeklubben, played Smukfest, Spot Festival, Byhaven, Rust and most recently a sold-out release concert in his hometown Aarhus with his band.
