The evening begins with a fascinating 20-minute talk by historian Claus Hebor, who will take us on a journey through the history of Irish music – from traditional folk songs and pub music to the modern sounds that have made Ireland a global musical powerhouse.

Sing Street is the acclaimed Irish musical coming-of-age film from 2016, written and directed by John Carney, the filmmaker behind Once and Begin Again. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, the film received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while also winning several international film awards.
Set in Dublin in 1985, Sing Street follows 15-year-old Conor, who starts a band in an attempt to impress the mysterious Raphina. What begins as a teenage crush soon becomes a heartfelt story about friendship, creativity, first love, and finding your own voice. Featuring an unforgettable soundtrack inspired by 1980s icons such as The Cure, Duran Duran, and a-ha, along with a collection of outstanding original songs, Sing Street has become one of Ireland’s most beloved modern films.
