A HUGE WORK OF ART CREATED LIVE BY THE GIVISME ASSOCIATION IN COLLABORATION WITH VOLUNTEERS FROM AARHUS AT A CENTRAL LOCATION IN AARHUS DURING FESTUGEN FROM TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST AT 1.00 PM – WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND AT 1.00 PM

STANDARD TIME AARHUS is a live re-enactment of German artist Mark Formanek’s iconic 2007 installation in Berlin, which explores time, collaboration and shared rhythm.

The work consists of four large digits displaying the current time. Over the course of 24 hours, time is built minute by minute, in real time, by people – a total of 1,440 times in a day. A collective precision effort, in which time only passes because people are present and acting in unison.

The entire 24-hour period is filmed, and the clock can subsequently be downloaded free of charge as a screensaver which, once installed, synchronises with your computer’s clock and therefore always keeps accurate time.

YOU CAN BUILD TIME

You can help build time minute by minute. Either by signing up on your own and joining a team with people you may not know beforehand, or you can sign up together with a group of friends, colleagues, neighbours, kayaking buddies or your bridge club and, together, take responsibility for ensuring that time passes… on time.

And you’re encouraged to be visible – meaning you can dress up, wear team T-shirts, and bring props and performances that showcase your unique community.

And ANYONE aged 15 and over can take part – it’s not difficult once you’ve found your rhythm with the team you’re part of. If you have a disability, please let us know, and together we’ll find a way for you to take part that works best for you.
