Still Here
This artwork has been created using fragments from a bombed Ukrainian nursery school in Borodyanka.
The material was collected by the charity Malyn Volonter. The shadows of children at play symbolise the resilience and vitality of Ukrainian children. Homes and buildings may be destroyed, but not their spirit or their hope for freedom.
Anni Laukka (1982) is a Finnish artist who works with sculpture, light and shadow. At first glance, her shadow works may appear to be one thing, whilst the light reveals an entirely different figure in the shadow. In this way, she explores the visible and the hidden – and weaves multiple narratives into a single work.
