The Human Library at Aarhus Festuge

Highlight

As part of the theme ‘Boundaries and Neighbourhood’, the Human Library is visiting Aarhus Festuge this year with its Open Shelf event.

The Human Library is, in the most literal sense of the word, a library consisting of people. At our events, you (the Reader) are invited to ‘borrow’ one or more of our Human Books for personal conversations (Readings).

You can ‘borrow’ the Books for up to 30 minutes, either alone or in small groups, and gain a better understanding of what it’s like to live with a disability, a particular lifestyle, neurodivergence and much more. The aim is to foster interpersonal dialogue that challenges prejudices on both sides.

The ‘Human Books’ are volunteers who give their time to talk about their specific topic. They all have personal experiences relating to their ‘title’ and belong to a group in society that faces stigma, prejudice or discrimination.

At the event, you can also find out more about the Human Library Online, where you can borrow our ‘Books’ for free from home for live, online Readings. The project is supported by the Velux Foundation.

If you’re curious, you can try out the concept right now by sending an email to support@humanlibrary.org to be registered as a Reader. Please write “Aarhus Festuge” in the subject line. We’ll then send you an invitation so you can sign up for the Readings and take part from home, whenever it suits you.

We look forward to seeing you at the Aarhus Festuge on Saturday 5th of September and ONLINE.
