WORLD KIOSK

Experience a Living Archive of Stories from Aarhus and International Residents in the Art Installation World Kiosk

Imagine a place reminiscent of an old-fashioned newspaper kiosk. A place where stories can be found – hyper-local stories shared through conversations with the people you meet.

Now imagine yourself sitting at a café table with a special edition newspaper in your hand and headphones on. A volunteer serves you a cup of herbal tea. As you listen, you gain a deeper understanding of people from Aarhus and beyond – people you may be familiar with, yet do not truly know.

The art installation World Kiosk is an encounter with the world around you.

Learn More About Your Fellow Citizens Over a Cup of Herbal Tea

In collaboration with the award-winning theatre company Variable Matter (UK), Aarhus Festival presents World Kiosk. Inspired by encounters between people, the work focuses on democracy, neighbourliness, and giving a voice to those we rarely hear from.

You will find World Kiosk in the square in front of Aarhus City Hall. Here, free of charge, you can take a seat at one of the kiosk’s café tables, enjoy a complimentary cup of herbal tea, and gain insight into lives being lived in Aarhus.

World Kiosk can be experienced at Aarhus City Hall Square from 3–5 September between 12.00 and 18.00, and on 6 September between 10.00 and 15.00.

The stories featured in World Kiosk are in a selection in both Danish and English.

“World Kiosk is a touring artist installation where you can listen and contribute to a living archive of hyper local stories. It acts as a locus for community conversation, exchange and collective imagination. Designed to resemble a street kiosk, the installation seeks to transform the everyday, and local spaces such as market squares, car parks and fields, to question the potentials of public space as places of conversation, enlightenment and surprise.” – Variable Matter
