Frequently asked questions

We expect you to take the equivalent of approximately 12 hours. Of course, you're welcome to work as many shifts as you like.

Basically, you are free to shop around in our many different volunteer teams. You can sign up for teams and volunteer shifts through the volunteer portal. A good tip: Be ready when shift schedules are posted on a regular basis.

Yes, you will of course be part of one big volunteer team. But when we talk about different volunteer teams, it has to do with the tasks you'll be doing. In the volunteer portal you'll find a list of the different teams and descriptions of the many different volunteer tasks - you can also click the button further up the page. You can sign up for as many volunteer teams as you like.

And here's another good tip: there is a big difference in the length of the shifts/assignments, so make sure you do your research before signing up for a shift. Once you've signed up for a shift, we'll send you an email with information about shifts and shifts.

No, we only see you meeting new people! Yes, of course you can :-) It's great if you want to bring the - hopefully - good energy you have with your friend, boyfriend, son or mother-in-law to Festugen. All you need to do is find two available teams and shifts in the volunteer portal.

It's a good question and unfortunately we can't conjure up a clear answer. Because some people think it's great...
... to get into the engine room and get to know a big cultural festival like Festugen from the inside.
... meeting a lot of new people and becoming part of a very special community spirit.
... to come back year after year and bathe in the unity and strong Festuge friendships.
... lending a hand, but most of all looking forward to the kick-off dinner and the big closing party for the volunteers, where there will be food, drinks and music at our expense.
... to use the volunteering opportunity to get out and experience the Festival more.
... to get their hands on the unique volunteer shirt.

And then there's a large group that can cross a little bit of everything.

We like to say, "there is no Festival without volunteers". As a volunteer, you become the face of the Festival out in the city. You help shape people's experience of the Festival. And that's actually pretty cool.

We always try to have some fruit, snacks and water for your shift.
If you take a longer shift, we can offer you catering in the form of either a food ticket and drinks for lunch or dinner in our Festugerestaurant or a sandwich 'to go'.

Read - or re-read - our Consent Statement here.

This is what our volunteers say:

"I volunteer at the festival because it's incredibly rewarding, exciting, stimulating and fun. The wonderful positive people from top to volunteer and the overall welcoming attitude from all sides makes me look forward to another trip as a festival volunteer."

Claus, 5th year volunteer

"As a volunteer, I experience a strong sense of community, meeting new people and a unique opportunity to see the festival from a different angle. I experience a sense of pride in lovely Aarhus and being a part of making the Festival a unique experience for all visitors."
